Furiously tap to the beat of some great tunes in this game inspired by Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution. But leave the tap shoes at home; just bring your iPhone.
Talk about addictive. Free iPhone game Tap Tap Revenge has an instantly-familiar interface to anyone who's ever played Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Supplied music tracks play in the background, and colored dots rain down from the top of the screen to the bottom. When the dots intersect the white bar along the bottom of the screen, you have to tap the dot. When an arrow scrolls down, you have to jerk the phone to the left, right, or down, depending on the arrow, as if tapping an invisible object.
There are four difficulty levels, with Extreme foisting a literal shower of dots down upon you. Tilting the phone doesn't register with the same degree of accuracy as tapping, though, making the tilting bits an exercise in frustration. It would be nice if there were a screen-based option that could take the place of moving the phone, such as tapping at the edges of the screen.

Chicago (IL) - After suffering through virtual beer drinking, boobs and farts, Apple's iPhone gets a new unique entertainment application dubbed iSteam. It turns your device into a foggy glass surface, perfectly mimicking a mirror after a hot shower. It will have earned a bunch of 22-year old kids $100,000 in one month, having already created a cult-like following and generating over 1 million downloads. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why it took iSteam barely a week since its December 30 release to overtake iBeer, iFart, Pull My finger, Ocarina, Whoopies Cushion and Zephyr to briefly become #1 entertainment application in the App Store.
iSteam features an incredible graphics engine that renders foggy, wet overlays on top of any image from your iPhone's library with astounding realism. But it isn't just the graphics itself, it's the clever use of iPhone's user interface and sensors that earned this application such a huge following.
For start, you can press your finger against iPhone's touchscreen to draw shapes, which wipes out moisture and reveals your image underneath. It also provides real-time feedback with a finger squeaking sound. The jaw-dropping effect perfectly mimics real-life drawing on a steamy window and simply begs to be tried. You can also leave the image in tact to see realistic droplets form and leave marks as they fall down the screen. Turn the handset upside down and droplets change the falling direction accordingly. When you draw an image, you can email it to someone, or shake the handset to clear the screen and start over (like an Etch-a-Sketch).

Apple didn't get rich by writing a lot of cheques, or by giving something away when it could charge for it later. Even when that something would mean your iPhone wasn't left kicking around on the computer desk, getting scratched up and knocked off.

Apple is believed to have offered President elect Barack Obama an iPhone to replace is much loved Blackberry. An insider at Apple said last week that Apple was prepared to give the phone away for free.
"Research In Motion and their Blackberry is a Canadian Company and Apple is a pure American Company," the insider said. "It makes sense to support an American Company as opposed to a foreign product during the economic downturn," the Apple executive added.
The move comes as Research In Motion stands to get massive global brand awareness.
Despite legal and security hurdles, president-elect Barack Obama intends to keep his beloved Blackberry when he moves into the White House this week. Interviewed by CNN, Obama said the smartphone was among the tools that he would use to stay in touch with "real Americans" to avoid becoming trapped inside the presidential "bubble".
"My assumption is that anything I write in an e-mail could end up being on CNN," he said. "So I make sure to think before I press 'send'."
Obama did not divulge just how he will overcome legal constraints, given the requirement of the Presidential Records Act to keep a record of every White House communication.
The mobile device dilemma may have inadvertently been solved on Friday.
Obama's Blackberry fell from his belt when he left his limo to board his plane in Washington. A Secret Service agent hurried to pick up the pieces.

Could America's best-selling phone get a little brother?
pple has a reputation for keeping the American public clinging on its every word, a reputation carefully crafted through a reputation for industry-shaking announcements ever since the release of its fortune changing iPod. The company regularly revamps its iPod line and has launched major products like the iPhone and the MacBook Air at big press events like MacWorld, held each January.
And while this will be Apple's last year at MacWorld, that does not stop the rumors that a big announcement is coming.
America's best selling phone, the iPhone, has long been rumored to be scheduled to get a smaller sibling, an iPhone nano. Now, fueled by moves by some case manufacturers, these rumors are heating up, just in time for the pre-MacWorld buzz.

It seems like just yesterday 2.0 firmware was upon us and the iPhone App Store was the coolest thing ever. iPhone app developers keep on creating quality apps (even though there are some real POS apps out there too) that help keep our iPhones fresh and exciting.
Over at BestAppEver.com, they recently had people vote for what was their favourite app in a variety of categories. The one app that did the most damage by sweeping a variety of categories was Shazam (listed in our Top 5 Must Have Apps list).
Shazam was the cream of the crop in the categories of Best Overall, Most Innovative, and Best WOW. I must agree that Shazam is one of my favourite apps because it works exactly as advertised when trying to identify any song out there.
The winner for the Most Useful App was Air Sharing and the Best Free App was the ebook reader, Stanza. Personally, I would have chosen TwitterFon or Fring as some of my top free apps.

New plan may allow the iPhone to act as a wireless modem at near broadband speeds
Rumors about Apple are already heating up the blogosphere. With MacWorld set to kick off tomorrow, there's reports of changes to Apple's PC and notebook lineup, and even rumors of a possible iPhone nano.
Lost amid the noise is a rumor concerning Apple and its partner AT&T, which may seem smaller, but could be a big deal eventually for some iPhone customers. TUAW, an Apple blog, is reporting that a trusted source at Apple has confirmed long rumored plans that Apple and AT&T will be announcing a tethering service for the iPhone in the next couple weeks.
With the new service, AT&T would supplement its existing wireless broadband modem offerings, and attempt to gain and upper hand on wireless aircard providers Verizon Wireless and Sprint.
The new service is reported to be offered for an extra $30/month fee, which will include 5 GB of data. As with other aircards, going over the data cap will likely incur large overages. To use the service you would simply connect the iPhone to your computer.

I'm not entirely convinced the Dev Team met its New Year's Eve iPhone 3G unlock deadline but it's here now...
Dubbed 'yellowsn0w' (don't eat it) the application version is 0.9.1 meaning the elite hacking group hasn't quite had the faith to pull it out of beta at this stage still early reports are it does what it says on the tin.
For the uninitiated that means yellowsn0w is the first software unlock to open up the iPhone 3G handset for use with any network and will work with the latest 2.2 firmware - in fact, it only works with this edition as it requires the latest 02.28.00 baseband to operate.

YellowSn0w is out and it’s ready to rock. Here’s how to become SIM-independent.
2. Use the latest firmware to pwn your phone (download it from Apple here). This will allow you to install Cydia or Installer. If you just updated your phone or updated your phone on the computer you are running quickpwn on, you probably won’t have to download the firmware.
