Dropbox Launches Free iPhone App

Dropbox released a free iPhone app! The app is of course free, and offers access to your Dropbox while you’re on-the-go. Access, view and download your files right from your iPhone for offline viewing. Take new photos or videos and sync them to your Dropbox… Or even share links to files in your Dropbox, all from the convenience of your iPhone.

In case you’ve never heard of Dropbox before, here’s the official skinny:

Dropbox is software that syncs your files online and across your computers.

Put your files into your Dropbox on one computer, and they’ll be instantly available on any of your other computers that you’ve installed Dropbox on (Windows, Mac, and Linux too!) Because a copy of your files are stored on Dropbox’s secure servers, you can also access them from any computer or mobile device using the Dropbox website.

Adobe Still Working Hard on Flash for the Free iPhone

If you’ve been waiting and waiting for Flash to hit the iPhone, you’re not alone. Over the past few days however, some promising words have come out of the mouth of Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen. In an inverview with Bloomberg Television, he noted:

“It’s a hard technical challenge, and that’s part of the reason Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) and Adobe are collaborating…The ball is in our court. The onus is on us to deliver.”

Well, that’s… Something I suppose. The ball is clearly in Adobe’s court as Narayen clearly describes. While flash is installed on 98% of the world’s personal computers and 800 million handsets, the iPhone is one frontier that Flash hasn’t crossed… Yet.

Last March Apple CEO Steve Jobs noted that Flash simply ran too slowly for the iPhone, and that the trimmed down ‘Flash Lite’ simply isn’t capable enough for use on the web. Coming up on a year from those statements, I’m hoping to hear more positive news from Adobe in the months to come regarding Flash on the iPhone. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Quickoffice gives iPhone/iPod Touch users easy access to iDisk with MobileFiles

Quickoffice has recently unveiled MobileFiles, a free iPhone application that enables direct access to a user’s MobileMe iDisk files from an iPhone or iPod Touch.

Currently iPhone/iPod Touch users with MobileMe accounts have easy access to their contacts, calendar, gallery and mail but cannot retrieve their iDisk files directly from their beloved device. Quickoffice addresses this void with MobileFiles.

As expected, MobileFiles’ UI is iPhone-like easy to use, and also provides users with access to Google Docs accounts. The application is (as mentioned) free to download, though I’m not sure it’s available at the moment through AppStore. In its release, Quickoffice stated “Q4″ hinting us we’ll be able to download it anytime soon…

AT&T prepping new iPhone color? Deep Red?

What’s this? AT&T is planning on pushing a new iPhone color? Well, if Engadget Mobile’s anonymous tip (the best kind of tip) pans out, AT&T has indeed started to stock “Deep Red” colored iPhones.

In what is purported to be an internal inventory sheet from AT&T, we can clearly see AT&T’s new “Deep Red” iPhones. What’s interesting, though, is the 4GB variant of the Deep Red iPhone. Considering that the 4GB iPhone went the way of the the floppy-disk (remember those?) with Apple’s infamous iPhone price-cut, we’re not sure what to make of the 4GB iPhone popping up in “Deep Red” guise.

Free iPhone un-bricking solution released

Those of you that decided to find out if Apple was bluffing when they said that unlocked iPhones would be bricked by the iPhone v1.1.1 firmware have undoubtedly found out (the hard way) that Apple was for real. If you’re staring at a “Connect to iTunes” screen on your iBrick, and you just don’t feel like shelling out a C-note for iPhoneSIMfree’s premium un-bricking service, the iPhone Dev Team has come to your rescue.

Well, actually, it’s a subset of the iPhone Dev Team that’s released the new unbricking solution - the iPhone “Elite” Team. The “Elite” guys have released a downgrade solution that will take your bricked iPhone from v1.1.1 to a fully functioning v1.0.2. This solution basically restores your iPhone’s phone functions, but reverts your firmware back to v1.0.2 in the process. But, be warned, the 18-step process requires a bit of familiarity with the hacking tools described on the iPhone Dev Wiki.

Man sues iPhone trio over price cuts - Steve Jobs, Apple, AT&T all named in latest lawsuit

And they just keep coming in. The latest iPhone-related lawsuit is aimed not only at the iPhone maker, but at the exclusive iPhone carrier (AT&T), as well as Mr. Steve Jobs himself. The suit was filed on September 24 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, Queens. The plaintiff, Dongmei Li, alleges that the iPhone “trio” is guilty of price discrimination, underselling, discrimination in rebates, and deceptive actions in the recent iPhone price cuts that left early iPhone adopters feeling the pain of the $200 hit.

What motivated Li to pursue legal action? Well, first she waited in the launch-day line for the iPhone. Then she found that the store only had 4GB iPhones in stock, so she bought one - which isn’t exactly a horrible story. But then Apple slashed the price of the 8GB iPhone and discontinued the 4GB model - leaving Li with an unsellable, discontinued iPhone model.
