IPhone 3G Helps Safari Browser Market Share Rise
iPhone browser grows 58% market share in one month
One of the most popular Smartphones around right now is the Apple iPhone. The launch of the iPhone 3G has only helped make the device even more popular with users thanks to faster download speeds and new features.
Along with increased sales of the iPhone thanks to the 3G capability, the share of the market the iPhone's Safari browser has is growing. CNET News reports that the iPhone has boosted the share of the market its browser commands since the launch of the 3G model.
Figures compiled by Net Applications show that in June 2008 -- prior to the launch of the iPhone 3G -- the iPhone browser had 0.16% the mobile browser market. In July, the share of the mobile browser market for the iPhone grew to 0.19%.
After the launch of the iPhone 3G as of September 1, the iPhone now has a mobile browser market share of 0.30%. That makes for an increase of 58% in market share in only one month. A Net Applications report on the mobile browser market says, "The release of the iPhone 3G has brought large gains in Web-browsing share. Prior to the launch, iPhone usage share had leveled off, but has since resumed its upward trend."
