Sprint holding up against iPhone storm
At least a million gadget-loving geeks call it the iPhone. To Gary Forsee it’s “one particular device launched a couple months ago.”
Forsee, chairman and chief executive officer of Sprint Nextel Corp., told Wall Street analysts that that his company is holding its own against at least an initial surge of demand for the much-hyped iPhone touch screen telephone produced by Apple Inc. and sold with AT&T Inc.
“I believe our device lineup is back to best in class, setting aside one particular device launched a couple months ago,” Forsee said today at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference in New York. “There are other iconic devices that are on the roadmap, including some this year, that will start to deal with the touch screen capability of the iPhone.”
The iPhone has dazzled hundreds of thousands of wireless customers enough to buy it. Many others have marveled at a vibrant screen that can flick through photos or expand and shrink images with the touch of a finger.
