Free iPhone Ringtones in Under One Minute
One of the major downfalls of the iPhone and iPhone 3G is its inability to have free custom ringtones. Apple gives you two options: pay $0.99 for a 30 second ringtone, or choose one of the standard provided iPhone ringtones (like the infamous Marimba).
If you're anything like us, then those options don't suit you. These two options don't provide the smooth and personalized iPhone experience which Apple promises.
There have been lots of methods explaining how to get "free ringtones" on your iPhone circulating the internet. Here are some of the more difficult/unnecessary methods:
[note: scroll to the red text for simple instructions on how to get free ringtones on your iPhone/iPhone 3G]Require Jailbreak
- SSH/File Transfer: Drop any mp3, aac, m4a, or m4r file into the iPhone's /Library/Ringtones directory.
- Sendsong: Pick any song from your iPod and move it into the ringtones section. Install with AppTapp.
- Manually place AAC files into the correct iTunes Ringtones folder. Works with purchased songs which have been properly converted to .aac format.
- Properly convert songs to .m4r format and drop them into the iTunes Ringtones folder. Note: Does not work with iTunes purchased songs since they are DRM protected.
- iPhoneRingToneMaker - (Windows: $7.50) - Edit and transfer any song to your iPhone for ringtone usage [link]
- iToner - (Mac: $15) - Copies ringtones to your iPhone [link]
- GarageBand (MAC, Part of iLife $79) [thanks bud]
